From 01/01/2005 the transport regulation of dangerous goods has changed again:

The transport regulation of dangerous goods have changed fundamental regarding its structure. The marginal notes up to now are no longer existing. Instead of these a subject related numeric classifying system was established.

The changes do not only affect the classification, there are also new regulations in content. E.g. the marks in the shipping documents have to be modified from January 1st, the labels must have show the number of the dangerous goods classification and the former exempted shipping goods have been summarized now in one chapter.

07/30/2002: New labelling of preparations with environmental hazards (Directive 1999/45/EC)

Since 07/01/2000 substances with a classification as environmental hazards, have to be labelled.

Beginning 07/30/02 this will be obligatory for preparations containing such substances, as well.

This directive also applies to the hydrocarbon mixture used in our lighter fuel. This new regulation makes it necessary to label this product with the symbol "N" for environmental hazards in addition to the flame symbol (highly flammable) and the symbol "Xn" (harmful) and supplementary add the note: "Do not empty into drains". Relief for the shipment of lighters and lighter gas refills: With regards to the transport regulation (ADR) lighters containing flammable gas or lighter gas refills (UN1057) it is not allowed to ship them as limited quantities. Germany now joined now the ADR exception agreement M100. This agreement allows the shipment of UN1057 with less conditions. These products can be shipped as limited quantities without regarding further regulations of the ADR if they meet the following requirements:

From 01/01/1999 on the transport regulations of dangerous good has changed (14th adjustment of ADR).

The new regulations allows some simplifications in handling limited quantities of dangerous goods concerning the labelling of the transport boxes and the respective shipping documents. (UN + <UN-No.> within a diamond shaped surrounding line, labeling as "LQ" no specification in shipping document.) If a dangerous good can take advantage of these "limited quantity" exception rules and under which circumstances, is fixed in the new transport regulation

From 01/01/1998 on the labelling of dangerous goods has changed. (22nd adjustment of guidelines 67/548/EWG)

This changes affects also the lighter fuel cans. From that time the lighter fuel cans have to be labelled in addition with the danger symbol "harmful" (cross) and the labelling text "Harmful: may cause lung damage if swallowed" (R-65).

From 01/01/1997 on the transport regulations of dangerous goods for Class 2 (pressurised packing) has changed.

The lighter gas refills will be no longer handled under the UN-No.1950 (Aerosols), but have now an own UN-No.1057, as already practised in sea transportation. Unfortunately the old exception regulation of "limited quantities" for the transport of lighter gas refills will be not applicable any more. Further on an UN-tested transport box will be necessary.
